Metropolitan Housing Alliance (MHA) is a public entity that was formed in 1941 to provide federally subsidized housing and housing assistance to low-income persons and families within the City of Little Rock, Arkansas. The MHA is headed by an Executive Director (ED) and is governed by a five-person Board of Commissioners and is subject to the requirements of Title 24 of the Code of Federal Regulations and MHA's procurement policy.

MHA provides publicly assisted housing comprised of traditional public housing, mixed finance sites and Section 8. We currently house more than 8,000 individuals. More than half of our residents live in Section 8 housing located throughout the City of Little Rock. MHA provides Section 8 residents with a voucher to be used toward their rent; however, private landlords manage the properties. Our facilities are conveniently located in City Center.An opportunity to develop a brighter future is always our goal.

The Housing Authority of the City of Little Rock (D.B.A) Metropolitan Housing Alliance is a public body corporate and politic, exercising exclusively public and essential government functions, and having all the powers necessary or convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and previsions of the Housing Authorities Act. The Alliance is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners which establishes goals, approves policy and budgets,and provides general direction to the MHA executive staff.

Over the past 13 years MHA has demolished and revitalized five obsolete public housing developments. With this accomplishment the leverage for Replacement Housing Factor grant funds with private and other resources is at an amazing 1:8 ratio. MHA has more than 15 new homeowners that have benefited from our development activity and over 3000 residents served with an additional 3000 or more needing service; MHA is duty-bound to expand the services in the community to narrow the housing needs.

We have worked diligently to look beyond our public housing boundaries and to begin addressing how to transform not just the neighborhood but the people too. We recognized early on that a community is much more than replacing buildings and streets. As a whole, our staff has embraced our role as agents of change.
